The search and identification of potential unexploded ordnances on-site
UXOs or Unexploded Ordnances, which include remnant items such as bombs, bullets, grenades, etc., that were not detonated, may still exist on construction sites in and around many cities and ex-military bases across the UK that were targeted during historical wartimes. These UXOs pose a significant risk to the project during the site investigation phases and during construction.
It is a requirement by law that every project must provide contractors and designers with a thorough risk assessment of the site before construction commences. Conducting a UXO Risk Assessment will ensure all risks are considered before commencing the project.
The risk assessment is carried out in two phases. An initial preliminary UXO Risk Assessment provides an initial review and probability assessment of the UXO risk. If a risk of the presence of UXOs is deemed likely, then a more quantifiable risk assessment is required and is carried out as a Detailed UXO Risk Assessment.
